Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge tells us about two loser buddies who have tons of problems in their lives, even though they are totally good for each other, but they can never step out of their comfort zones. How they meet, how they let their nascent infatuations grow into a relationship which would help them to get over their problems and come closer to each other, is the story of the film.
The cinematography is that of the best and any director worth his salt is usually blessed with some ace visuals. Once again, Karan Johar is not lacking in that department, as the director has struck a chord in the best sense of the term. MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE is a visual extravaganza that most cinema buffs would love to watch and the only thing which limits it from being completely amazing, is the limited runtime.
Ever since Karan Johar's debut directorial, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, he has created a benchmark in the industry. At this moment, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, maybe, gives him the best of a tough challenge. I have no idea why he, or anyone else, didn't know he had such a smart movie in him.
Even though the title makes it sound like a typical rom-com, its more like a romantic satire of Indian relationships. It goes about describing the intricacies of the online culture with multiple layers of truth. Teasing and making fun of it is one thing, but delivering is a bit more difficult. It does have its flaws. The film would've been more streamlined if the main plot was not one that revolves around the whole industry in the city of Mumbai. The backdrop did help in adding more layers of creativity, but, as ever, the narrative could've been longer. How about making a film about two complete strangers on a train and having to figure out how to interact Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge has got a slower pace than a typical romantic comedy, but it has the heart for a smile right there. The audience goes in with expectations set at 0, yet comes out with quite an array of them to prepare them for the sequel. Zee5, moovana, phata one, betaab just dont have the charm that's quintessential to the Indian love story, but MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE has it. It's insightful, contemplative and entertaining.
