In this picture Toby was loved and cared for by his rescuer before being adopted out as a companion. This picture was taken before his vision loss.
Toby was rescued by a caring person who rehabilitated him and then adopted him out to another party as a companion horse, due to his vision loss. However, this person had other intentions and tried to use him as a riding horse. When this didn't work out, this adopter sent him to another to be a companion horse. Toby probably was not given enough time to get used to the other horses and his new surroundings and protected himself. This woman no longer wanted him and off again he went, this time to a horse broker.
Horse brokers make their money by selling off the horses at auction. This means the horse can either go to a home or slaughter. By shear luck we found Toby on a website. This poor horse was bounced around 3 times! Without the original rescuer knowing! He was weighed and ready to be shipped to Mexico for slaughter.
To save Toby a woman came forward to adopt him as a companion only. She needed additional funds to help free him from the broker. This is where Freedom's Rescue got involved.... We paid the remaining fee to get him off the truck to Mexico and on a trailer to a good home in Massachusetts.
We were elated that this horse will finally be settled and safe.
